Welcome to Puroslam
Going strong since 1999, the weekly San Anto puro ˇSLAM! draws one of the largest audiences to a spokenword open-mic in the entire country. The San Anto audience is encouraged to react in any manner they see fit, which is the foundation of a poetry slam, and the San Anto crowd has a reputation for not only being attentive but responsive. Although it's a great thrill to have a crowd of 200, well-liquored people cheer a poet, there's nothing like a crowd of 200 well-liquored folk jeering a "poet". For more about poetry slams,

WEEKLY UPDATE FOR FEBRUARY 2NDHAPPY GROUNDHOG'S DAY! The Groundhog saw his shadow, the rain fell in buckets, and yet the people braved the miserable weather and left their homes because if you build it, they will come! And on the first tuesday in February, we built our biggest slam of the year so far. Lots of poets, lots of new and long time no see faces, standing room only, vigorous debates re Futurama vs Family Guy, and our first slam in a while with NO Flores- meaning that some one else actually had a chance to take first place. The regulars were practically drooling over the prospect only to be robbed by a newcomer. The dynamic Lady J swooped in, grabbed the mic, and slammed her way to a first place finish. 1st Place: Lady J 2nd place: Lakey
3rd Place: Almost Saved We return this tuesday and every tuesday- PuroSlam making your Tuesday nights memorable! Fast Forward. Rewind. Cat.

"O Oysters, come and walk with us!"
The Walrus did beseech.
"A pleasant walk, a pleasant talk,
Along the briny beach..."
PuroSlam is BACK- freed from the confines of Purgatory Silence- and we are ready to bless and terrorize Tuesday nights once again! We have a new home- one that would make Lewis Carroll proud (see below)- and we need help spreading the word and showing San Antonio that slam poetry is still alive and kicking in the south!
Check out our weekly update below!

PUROSLAM HAS A NEW HOME!
On The Half Shell Oyster Bar
202 Navarro Street, San Antonio, TX 78205 (210)843-3054
On Tuesday, September 1st, the Resurrection occurs! PuroSlam will rise from the ashes of a beer soaked grave and return to once again bless and terrorize Tuesday nights with words of wit, wisdom, and blasphemous wackiness. Only this time, the heart of the San Antonio slam scene will be in the heart of San Antonio- downtown amidst the tourists and trolley cars. On The Half Shell (www.onthehalfshell.net) will be our new home, welcoming us with open shells, drink specials, and a hearty shout out to Free Speech and Open Expression.
So spread the word: forward this email; post it to your Mybook Facespace accounts; call long lost drinking buddies and make plans to meet them downtown on a Tuesday!
It's a new venue but it's the same old PuroSlam: judges, heckling, old poets, new poets, and the best prizes in the slam world!
UPCOMING EVENTS:
February 16th Regular Slam
February 23rd Regular Slam
February 30th Regular Slam
$25 bar tab and other fabulous prizes up for grabs every week at PuroSlam!
